Prayer

Prayer is communicating with God. It’s us relating to the One who made and love us.

We try and pray in different ways in our church community, so if you see something that you’ve not tried before do check it out!

After the 10:30am Sunday service at St Matthew and St Oswald’s and Overslade there is prayer ministry available, where you can be prayed for by a couple of other people. Many people find this really helpful and encouraging.

We have weekly early morning prayer in our Church Centre on Thursday mornings at 7:15am. We also have particular prayer events in different seasons of church life such as 24-7 Prayer weeks.

We also have a prayer calendar - each month there is a particular group or cause who we remember in our prayers.

Pray for the work of Toybox

In June we pray for the work of Toybox, who work to end the injustice of children living and working on the streets.

Give thanks for the Open House at Terry and Yvonne Seamer’s home which raised £540.
At the end of this week, Team Toybox will be attending the Wychwood Festival. This is our fourth year at this event where we will be talking to supporters, both old and new, about our birth registration work. Please pray that people will be inspired to act and join with us to reach more children and stop the injustice of them living and working on the streets and, instead, offer them hope through getting their official identities.

At times, the enormity of the issues facing street children across the world can feel overwhelming. This week we reflect on the words of Mother Teresa which remind us that collectively we can make a difference:
“I alone cannot change the world but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”
Please pray that our supporters in the UK and our partners globally will feel encouraged and know their efforts are worthwhile. We thank God for all they do and for the many lives that continue to be transformed through their support and determination.

12th June is the International Day Against Child Labour. During this week, please join with us as we pray for children working on the streets who are unable to fully enjoy their childhood. Please pray that God will move in the hearts and minds of business owners and traffickers; inspiring them to bring the practice of child labour to an end. Pray, too, for our Child Ambassador, Alejandra, in San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador. Pray for protection for her and her project, Taller de Jesús (The Jesus Workshop) from the violence of local gangs.

The 26th June is the UN International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and we know many street children are closely affected by these issues. Please pray for children who through no fault of their own have been plunged into the chaos associated with a life on the streets. Pray that they will feel God’s unconditional love. Please also pray for God’s guidance and wisdom for Toybox as we begin to explore ways to best support street children affected by substance abuse and trafficking.

Mission partners for May are Christians Against Poverty, CAP. They work across the UK, including in Rugby. Thousands of lives have been changed by CAP using their expertise to negotiate with creditors, set up budgeting systems and offer a lifeline to those trapped in debt.

In 2016, CAP opened 180 new services. That includes 41 debt centres, 51 job clubs, 41 release groups and 47 life skills. It brought their total number of services at the end of 2016 to 605 - well on the way to their  target of 1,000 by 2021! To see how you can get involved with CAP go to www.capuk.org.

In January, we pray for the three Church of England schools in our parish: Harris academy, St Matthew's Bloxam and St Oswald's. Please continue to pray for St Matthew's school as they continue to look for the new headteacher.
